About Me:
Ryo Kajitani is a queer artist and art model based in Tokyo, Japan. They identify as transgender and asexual.
During their time at Tama Art University (2010-2014), they specialized in oil-based woodcut printmaking.
In the doctoral program (2016-2019), they studied under the late MOTOE Kunio (art historian, 1948-2019) and Nakamura Yutaka (cultural anthropologist). Their research focused on implementing the ontological aesthetics method in exhibition spaces with the artistic activities therein and proposed tentative logical models based on Heidegger's art theory.
After graduating, they returned to work as an art model and Graphic designer in Tokyo. Currently, they are experimenting with mixed analog and computational photography, combining printmaking techniques and partial machine learning (Python library, etc.,).
they also use their experience of being assaulted to provide international humanitarian aid and support orphans and others who wish to reintegrate into society.

This series of collages, which started in 2021, is based on my personal experience of being subjected to violence.
The groundwork is memories brought back by flashbacks, and documented photographs of the immediate aftermath of the assault.
A trinity of photography, drawing, and art printing methods forms these works, utilizing machine learning (based on Python, latent diffusion model) in some of the pieces.
In my works, I confronted the violence phenomenon as a creator, not a victim, and also positioned myself as one grain of social noise, not a modern protagonist.
As you know, the collage method is also a technical metaphor for manipulating nature and society.
In these works, I reflected on multilayered this metaphor as myself as noise and the diffusion process by 'editing,' I questioned the ontological whereabouts of the queer body/ identity with era from beyond Latent space.
In the process of making this series, reconstructed my own body not by 'deconstruction' but by rough treatment through 'disemboweled'.
After the assault, I lost facial expression, yet my body became a reservoir of energy that accumulates as a social force, which the artist or viewer can project their fears, desires, and dreams.
When viewing these works, confront them with a gaze freely.
My body accepts the gazes steeped in these diverse desires, fears, and sadness.
